Lions Club Christmas
The Rippey Lions Club gathered for their annual Christmas meeting on Dec. 1 and started a new tradition of making this meeting a guest night with friends and neighbors. Greg Jacobs opened the meeting welcoming the guests.
Guests joining the members included Charlie and Cindy Mundy, Chris Henning, Dick Bardole, Pastor Cat Stokes, and Bobbi Dollinger.
Following the potluck meal featuring homemade soup, Bobbi was presented with a certificate for her volunteer help at the recent pancake meal.
After a short presentation on the background and currents projects of the Rippey Lions Club, Rick Fazel invited the group to join in songs of the season.
The next regular meeting will be on January 6. Guests are always welcome. Nancy Hanaman, reporting
Hanaman visit – Dale and Nancy Hanaman journeyed to Wisconsin to celebrate with their granddaughter, Andrea Pearson, for her 15th birthday over Thanksgiving weekend. Family gathered for a birthday meal and cake to honor the birthday girl.
All State enjoyed – Toni Roberts accompanied Lori and Tim Bardole to Ames Saturday, Nov. 20, where they met with Tony and Wendy Burkett and family for a meal at Panera Bread. All attended the Iowa All State Concert at Hilton Coliseum.
Tony and Wendy’s daughter, Josie Burkett, was a second year participant in the All State Band as a clarinet player.
The concert was excellent, although the steps to the seats, not so much! “It was wonderful to see my granddaughter perform,” remarked Toni.
Thanksgiving 2021 – Four generations of family gathered for a Thanksgiving meal at the farm home of Tim and Lori Bardole of Rippey. Toni Roberts of Perry joined Roy and Phyllis Bardole as the “elder guests” of the celebration. Also present were Cassie Bardole, Will Bardole, and later, Schyler and Lauren Bardole with sons Adam and Luke.
We “elders” got a chance to relax and visit while the hosts served a delicious meal. Later, over pie and coffee, Phyllis, Roy and Toni related memories of life when they were youngsters. Adam (almost 4 years old) tried really hard to understand terms like gravel pit, dragline, water trough and bumblebees. It was fun relating memories and starting a new tradition!. ~Toni Roberts

Many books and DVDs on the Rippey Library shelves share themes of the Christmas season for folks of all ages like Dr. Suess’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas DVD featuring Jim Carey as the Grinch.
Another DVD, A Christmas Story is the 1983 film that provides a fun time for all, set in 1940’s Indiana when Ralphie has his heart set on a “genuine Red Ryder Carbine 200 shot air rifle.”
Holiday books to share the season include David Baldacci’s, The Christmas Train, filled with disillusioned journalist, Tom Langdon, traveling from Washington D.C. to California for the holidays with second chances to unexpectedly fill hopes and dreams.
Other books to read aloud might be The Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens with Ebenezer Scrooge, Tim and a host of memorable characters; and for children, Sparkles of Joy by Aditi Wardhan Singh which features a group of children sharing celebrating diversity and inclusion with Christmas, Hanukah and more.
Author, Diane deGroat wrote a delightful story Jingle Bells, Homework Smells when Gilbert finds Christmas preparations more fun than doing his homework.
You will find many interesting adventures at the Rippey Library.

Everyone is invited to join us on Saturday, Dec. 11, from 10 to 11 a.m. for a Christmas Story Time followed by craft decorating and snacks!
